How Norbert Sibelo, an Environmental Manager, Co- Founded DS Civil Construction Limited, with his colleague who is a Tile Fixer/ Painter

Born in November 1976 and based in Kitwe, Zambia, Norbert studied Environmental Management and also has qualifications in business, monitoring and evaluation as well as community development. He is currently studying environmental monitoring and analysis. Having studied entrepreneurship in one of the programs he pursued sparked Norbert’s interest in wanting to have a side hustle and growing it whilst still in formal employment. His formal employment was mainly in the construction industry, giving him an edge in the construction industry as an experienced person.

In May of 2021, Norbert and his colleague who is an experienced Tiler and Painter incorporated their company DS Civil Construction Limited under the laws of Zambia. The company is based in Kitwe, Zambia, but has however, executed construction works not only on the Copperbelt Province of Zambia but also Lusaka as well as Kasumbalesa in Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their works have mainly included painting, tiling, cladding, installation of stainless steel hand rails and galvanised water tanks as shown in the pictures below.

The company’s clients are largely the private sector and thrives on referrals coupled with marketing through WhatsApp, WeChat and Facebook. DS Civil Construction Limited is not only just fulfilling the Founders’ dream of owning a company but is also creating employment for local people. It at the moment has 5 permanent employees i.e., two Tilers and three Hand Rail Fitters and recruits for several temporal positions in the company according to project demands.

The Co- Founder said that one of the future company plans is to start supplying construction materials so that instead of just installing stainless steel hand rails for example, they supply and install. They also look forward to working with big clients in the future like the government.
